Don’t worship serpent: Kill it

DR. S.ARMSTRONG, ENGLISH LECTURER, MADRAS UNIVERSITY, CHEPAUK, MADRAS - 600 005

I am just stung by the caste mark of my Brahmin HOD. I am applying for professorship in the same dept. I requested her for a reference letter as required. This is an open post. I am a Dalit but wanted to apply. Look at this lady’s reference letter which starts like this: “Dr. Armstrong joined the dept. under backlog vacancy”. The moment I saw it I fainted and startled to know whom am I. I have just visited USA and Canada and gave four international papers in one trip which she has never done. She says: “Armstrong helps in summer holidays to physically improve the dept.” This is to say that I am a Dalit, I am fit for that job and I am good at that, but she fails to mention my foreign trip which is of my own merit not by my caste. I have published two books but she doesn’t mention it. I wish to internationalize this issue and in future this must not happen to any Dalit faculty anywhere in the world.

You have given yet another instance of hate-mongering by the Brahminical people who are fond of hurling the same charge against us. As long as such serpents are kept as rulers they will go on biting us. Don’t worship the serpent; kill it wherever you find it. Did not Periyar E.V. Ramaswamy say this? — EDITOR.

Chandigarh DV silver jubilee

V.T. RAJSHEKAR

The one-day Dalit Voice silver jubilee celebration for which DV family members from three states — Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh — were invited began on a dull note on Nov.11, 2007 at the Ambedkar Bhawan here but gathered momentum as the day warmed up.

Only around 12 noon the main hall of the Bhawan was almost 3/4 full. But those present were mainly the Dalits from Punjab and Haryana. None turned up from HP.

The DV circulation among Sikhs having fallen, because of the increasing rift between the Dalits and Jat Sikhs, there were hardly any upper caste Sikhs though there were many Dalit Sikhs.

Youth not attracted: Brahminical people have confused everybody in Punjab. They are encouraging the Ravidas movement to attract as many Dalits from Sikhism, even as they have divided the Jat Sikhs into Akalis and Congress and made them fight each other. The non-Sikh population is going up in this state which is also losing its stature as the granary of India.

There were hardly any youth at the meeting and only two women were in the audience. How can Dalit movement make any progress at this rate? Punjab scene is very depressing.

One happy development was the assurance of the Editor of the Rozana Spokesman, a Punjabi daily, Jogendra Singh, an upper caste Sikh, that he had devoted his paper for the unity of the Dalits and Sikhs. His daily had been publishing our articles getting good response from the Dalits as well as Sikhs of the state.

The Sikh religion was born to liberate the Dalits but some upper caste Sikhs were going against the dictates of their gurus. We call upon the Dalits of Punjab to support the Rozana Spokesman in its bid to unite the Dalits and Sikhs and re-establish the glory of Punjab.

A.J. Philip, associate editor of the Tribune, the leading English daily of Punjab, said India’s mainstream papers had hardly any Dalit journalists. He agreed with our criticism of M.K. Gandhi and said his recent visit to South Africa confirmed that Gandhi was no supporter of the Blacks.

Home Ministry watch: Dr. Kuldip Rai, a child specialist from Hoshiarpur dt., said the Hindu terrorist party taught Babasaheb’s “Three Commandments” which his children had forgotten

A young woman police officer, specially deputed by the Union Home Ministry, was present throughout the meeting taking down profuse notes.

The persons who made the event a success were Brothers Ram Parshad, Fateh Jung Singh and Priti Paul, a High Court advocate.

LETTERS TO EDITOR

Kaj Krinsmoe, Abildgade 15 - 01, th., 8200 Aarhus, Denmark: Pakistan politics is “made in Washington”. It is the same diabolical internationalism as we also see in Iraq. It is the same hidden agenda, driven by the Western media. Musharraf and Pakistan is trapped. Benazir Bhutto is the bait. Long live international democracy. By courtesy of international zionism.

Olaf Childress, Editor, The First Freedom, PO Box-385, Silver Hill, Alabama - 36575, USA: DV arrived yesterday and we are reading this latest issue with much interest. Both your newspaper and my TFF stand as little Davids engaged in mortal combat against a gigantic worldwide mediacracy. And yet, with continual prayer, dedication and unfaltering effort, we shall prevail. For DV and TFF, along with American Free Press and a few other such tabloids, relentlessly publish an essential truth denied elsewhere to practically the entire populations of supposedly sovereign states; namely, that honest investigation traces most of the world’s political misunderstandings, miscalculations and wars back to a single polluting source — power-hungry Jews, Brahmins and their lackeys.

Scheduled Castes Federation of Pakistan, Karachi: Two cousins of Surendar Valasai heading the SCFP were fired upon and wounded seriously by a Hindu group in his hometown on Oct.30. This was a planned attack to frighten the Dalit movement of Pakistan which is supporting Benazir Bhutto. Surendar Valasai, heads the English press desk at the media cell, Bilawal House, the official residence of Mrs. Bhutto. Thousands of Dalits had gathered among 3 million people at Karachi Airport on Oct.18 to receiver her whose PPP is the only political party which took cognizance of the issue of untouchability, caste discrimination and human inequality. Two Dalits of the PPP, Allahno Meghwar and Nanak Oad, were killed in the terrorist blasts at her welcome rally.

Ashok T.Jaisinghani, Pune, (ashokjai@ sanchar net.in): I had sent some articles of the Dalit Voice (Oct. 16) by email to a number of discussion groups. Some persons have started realizing the great harm being done to the Hindus by the bigoted Brahmins. I am also getting some threatening letters from the dogmatic supporters of Brahminism. You are right in stating that the Brahmins have refused to reform for thousands of years. The Brahmins are mainly responsible for many of the evil practices of Hinduism. I have read in some books that Vivekanand had a lot of problems with the Brahmins because he came from a poor family and belonged to a lower caste. The Brahmins of his time looked down upon him with contempt. I am sending clippings from the Indian Express which show the highly inhuman manner in which the sanitation workers are made to immerse their bodies, including their heads, in the sewage water to clean the dirty gutters in Pune. Many of the sanitation workers of Pune are dying at a very young age due to such obnoxious work which they have been forced to do without protective gear.

***

We are sending you Vivekananda’s book, Caste, Culture & Socialism, which its Brahmin publishers in Calcutta are refusing to reprint because the author has attacked them. We are not only receiving threatening letters but had two attempts on our life. All this is part of the game. They killed their own “Father of the nation” — EDITOR.

Dr. Bharat Jhunjhunwala, Lakshmoli, PO: Maletha via Kirti Nagar, Tehri Garhwal - 249 161: I agree wholeheartedly with the suggestion for unity between Dalits and Banias (DV Nov.1, 2007 p. 21: “Vaishya-Dalit united front?”). The critical point is for intellectuals of the two communities to get together. Rest of the community will follow only after the intellectuals come together. We should not be worried that businessmen are not interested. Banias, by nature, follow the powers that be. They need to be convinced this is a winning combination.

***

It is the Vaishya’s who are financing the Brahmana Jati Party (BJP) which is not doing anything in return to the community. The Vaishyas are owning the country’s biggest newspapers like the Times of India, Hindustan Times, Indian Express, Amar Ujala, Dainik Bhaskar, Nai Duniya, Rajasthan Patrika, Punjab Kesari (all Hindi) and many more. All these newspapers have employed cantankerous vaidiks who create hatred against Dalits, Muslims etc. and plunge the country into horrible violence. A unity between Vaishyas, who too were artisans and petty traders until M.K. Gandhi came on the scene, can help restore peace in India — EDITOR.
