40 - year - long frauds of M.S. Swaminathan

RAVINDER SINGH, progressindia2007@yahoo.com

When a country or an organization has a crook CEO in M.S. Swaminathan there are failures everywhere under his charge. Organisations can’t do a thing correctly. The number of farm scientists had doubled in ten years in India but food production is stagnant. He has taken charge of all the dirty business of Kalam; River Links, Jatropha, PURA & Farming Communes. How weather office in each village could boost food production? Farmers start sowing crops with the onset of rains, are dependent on rotational canal water supply or electricity for tube-wells. When so many villages don’t have a school, such foolish ideas will waste public money. It is absolute foolishness to even assume cost of producing paddy in Punjab is substantially less than TN when rainfall is half in Punjab therefore highly dependent on costly tube-well irrigation and cost of labor three times. But it is even more foolish to think cost of producing wheat is more than paddy. He admits 62 million hectares of Indian farms are irrigated by 20 million tube-wells but their cost of operations is not accounted fully in MSP. Can any one imagine monthly income of a farming family of six members average is only Rs. 2115 or $50 but this does not include debt burden which is worse than worst poverty standard adopted any where in the world- Rs.11 or 27 cents per head per day, just about 20 cents on accounting for debt servicing. But still successive governments had done little to minimize the role of exploiters, middlemen and commission agents.

It is shame an absolute crook who ruined Indian agriculture for over four decades continues to determine India’s agricultural policies and has volunteered to head commission on water resources also to advance Lunatic River Link plan to take up the work left unfinished by President Kalam. Millennium Development Goal (MDG) to reduce hunger by half between 1990 and 2015 was too modest. But Indian food production is stagnant for 10 years while population in 17 years has leapt ahead by 350 million or India has added more people than its population at the time of independence.

INDIA HONOURS ONLY CHEATS

You have guessed it right it the 81 years old M.S. Swaminathan who ought to have retired long time back. He lied in the opening lines of following paragraph that India is lagging behind MDG of halving hunger by 2015 when actually food production is stagnant for 10 years is admitted by GOI in parliament. His home state TN, progressing well in industrialization, is worst performer in child nutrition. In three age groups Tamil Children nutrition intake is 45% to 43% less than recommended daily allowance or RDA.

http://krishakayog.gov.in/5threp1.pdf

He recommends knowledge centers in every village but this crook doesn’t want to retire as yet and the people who appointed him are equally worse, had they promoted farming with the same zeal they promoted eccentric River Link and Jatropha, India would have eradicated hunger completely. True to Indian traditions we reward mediocres, cheats, dullards and failures.

Any honorable government would not be waiting to halving the hungry population for 25 years. You will find the average calorie intake in eight big states is 1907 K.Cal against recommendation of 2400 K.Cal. Even 1907 K.Cal is not quality foods like eggs or meats but largely coarse grains of degraded quality.

UNDER-NOURISHED CHILDREN

The Mid-term appraisal of the Tenth Plan reveals that we are lagging behind in achieving the MDG of halving hunger by 2015. Under-nutrition and malnutrition are still widespread. National Sample Survey (NSS) data show a clear trend of decline in calorie intake. In rural India, the average calorie intake per capita per day fell from 2266 Kcal in 1972-73 to 2183 Kcal in 1993-94. It fell further to 2149 Kcal in 1999-2000.

Among the lowest 30% of rural households in respect of consumer expenditure, the per capita calorie intake fell from 1830 Kcal in 1989 to 1600 Kcal in 1998. In 1999-2000, almost 77% of the rural population consumed less than the poverty line calorie requirement of 2400 Kcal.

The average calorie intake in 2004-05 across the eight states of Kerala, Karnataka, TN, AP, MP, Orissa, Maharashtra and WB was only 1907 Kcal as per provisional data released by the National Nutrition Monitoring Bureau (NNMB), indicating a declining trend. Further, 35.5% adults in these States, suffered from Chronic Energy Deficiency and 54.4% children in the age-group 1-5 years were undernourished with 16.5 % suffering from severe under-nutrition. Maternal and foetal under-nutrition results in the birth of babies with low birth weight, which reinforces itself in the absence of corrective measures.

This crook has identified hot spots of hunger but not hot spots where agriculture is not performing. He also ignores bright spots already that could easily improve farm yields like that need more canal waters to replenish ground water used in food production.

In all the age groups of children: 1-3 yrs, 4-6 yrs, 7-9 yrs, the RDA is higher than the median calorie intake in all the nine States, with Gujarat, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and Kerala recording the lowest levels.

SECOND GREEN REVOLUTION

This 81-year old extreme idiot “1.2.2 The second Green Revolution has to begin in dry farming areas,” having failed to perform in fertile and irrigated regions has now come up with next 50 years plan for “second Green Revolution.”

He recommends computerized soil testing at the commencement of each cropping season for 13 macro and micro nutrients and computer will tell farmers which crop to grow.

In 1992 I decided to test the soil of my land and brought the samples to PUSA and was told that my samples were first in that part of the block. Test was for nitrogen, phosphorus, potash and ph of water etc. Before this test I raised record sunflower crop and after test there was no time to procure truckload of gypsum so went ahead and raised record Basmati crop.Punjab is producing foodgrains at par in productivity of the best regions in the world in spite of poor quality of seeds, very little surface water allocation and moneylender exploitation.

Rainfed agriculture, however risky and vulnerable, continues to play an important role in India, contributing 60% of the cropped area and 45% of the total agricultural output.

PUNJAB FOOD PRODUCTION

It is absolutely irresponsible to believe rain-fed agriculture contributing 60% of cropping area and 45% of total agricultural production or 40% of irrigated area produce 55% food. This means irrigation contributes to only 37.5% increase in food production. Punjab produces 12% of food grains from 2.5% area under cultivation and 1% of river waters. Punjab can also improve food productivity by 50% easily their is potential to double food production.

This crook has not deliberately omitted state-wise data of irrigated area and food production. Punjab though allocated only 600 cubic meters of surface water per ton of food production, water available per ton of food production in Kaveri basin, home of M.S. Swaminathan, in raising rice is over 14,000 cubic meters per ton of food. Also Kaveri basin receives twice more rainfall than Punjab.

In the above it is clear to me that 75% to 80% of reliable irrigation or 62.5 million hectare is provided by tube-wells and only 20% to 25% of area is irrigated by canals or just about 16-20 million hectares.

Among the states, three have already achieved 70% or more of the ultimate irrigation potential with TN recording 100% achievement, followed by Punjab and Rajasthan at 84% and 74% respectively.

http://wrmin.nic.in/writereaddata/mainlinkFile/File722.pdf

In the above report for MoWR also chaired by Swaminathan he accepts that TN has already achieved 100% irrigation (P-5) but at “National Conference On Agriculture For Kharif Campaign 2007” the rice production for 2005-06 was 5.21 million tons, maize 0.241 million tons and pulses 0.177 million tons but after my taunts and expose of the mediocre and manipulator the figures projected for this year are over 50% more than achieved in excellent monsoon year 2005-06, this too is an excellent monsoon year in TN and estimated figures are 7.8, 0.575 and 0.73 million tons respectively.

Looking at it from another angle if TN can raise production by 50% in one year why can’t India raise food production by 50% in say two years?

Since surface water use potential in agriculture in India is said to be 690 BCM and 100 cm of irrigation is good for one paddy or two non-paddy crops on a million hectares need 10 BCM of water. So at least 60% to 70% water is wasted, in some regions figure could be over 90%.

CHINESE MIRACLE

Food production-linked water allocation norm could make more water available to deficit area and double the canal-irrigated area doubling food production in the newly irrigated area.

SRI nonsense of Swaminathan was commented upon on May 20, 2007. Even worse however is India adopting Chinese and Russian “Farming Commune” which miserable failed and China first liberalized farming and introduced private farming and achieved instant success. Food production in China is twice more than during Commune Days.

But this crook has proposed “commune structure” called Small Farmers’ Horticulture Estates (SFHE) to benefit corporate and commission agents more than farmers.

The cultivation of fruits, vegetables, flowers, spices, medicinal and aromatic plants is now going on in a big way in several parts of the country. Being perishable horticultural crops need effective infrastructure support in the areas of production, processing, storage, transportation and marketing. In villages adjoining large consumption centres (both for home and export markets), small farmers can be helped to organise small farmers’ horticulture estates covering of 200 to 500 hectares.

PRODUCERS & PROCESSORS

Such estates will confer on farmers cultivating one to two hectares the power of scale both at the production and post-harvest phases of the horticultural enterprise. Specialised activities like seed production, tissue culture propagation, production of compost, vermiculture, biofertilisers, biopesticides as well as e-commerce can be carried out at those estates. Low cost greenhouses coupled with fertigation techniques can be promoted, in addition to high-tech horticulture which can be undertaken by farm and home science graduates. The production of good quality, disease-free planting material in all clonally propagated species and seeds and planting materials of varieties suitable for processing will help farmers in areas where production and processing are linked. Such symbiotic linkages between producers and processors will facilitate sourcing of good quality raw material for the processing industry.

NEW MONEY LENDERS

Input prices have shot up and are still escalating. Poor farm families are left to the mercy of input dealers who have emerged as the new moneylenders of the countryside. Quality control is becoming increasingly important. Control has to be exercised over false and exaggerated claims for inputs with laws in place for penalty. Companies have drastically lowered the minimum germination rate they assure farmers. In the case of seed, this has fallen to as low as 60% which implies that a village buying 1000 bags of seed pays for that number, but gets only 600 in effect. Quality control is equally urgent in the case of fertilizers, bio-fertilisers, pesticides and bio-pesticides. There has to be a suitable agency for strict quality control of animal feed, drugs, vaccines and other biological products. Animal-rearers need to be protected from exploitation by unscrupulous manufacturers. It should be mandatory to print the digestible energy and protein content of the concentrate on the bag and the contents of the mineral brick on its packing.

It is clear even the quality of grains of seeds saved and stored by seeds companies have germination of only 60% which is due to fungus and boring insects. One can well imagine the quality of grains stored by farmers at their homes for self-consumption and for seeding next crop. Who is responsible for this? GOI must provide storage bins to all farmers to safely store food grains.

Pre-production agreements for sale between farmers and corporate houses and processing companies are being increasingly used in the case of certain vegetables, fruits, and medicinal plants. These agribusiness models are being loosely referred to as ‘contract farming’ though in many of these cases there is no formal contract between the farmers and the prospective buyer. The advantage of such arrangements could be biased in favour of the agribusiness organisation. However, there could be beneficial effects of such arrangements to the farmers in the matter of access to adequate and timely credit, good quality inputs, new technology, employment generation, introduction to new crops, separation of production and marketing risks, better farm practices, etc. The need is to develop a comprehensive, clean, equitable and farmer-centric model agreement, which cannot be abused against the farmers. Special care needs to be taken regarding clauses dealing with quality standards, withdrawal conditions, pricing standards, paying arrangements, natural calamities, and arbitration mechanisms.

CORPORATE CROOKS

In the above it is clear without removing the middlemen in the system GOI has in mind to introduce “Corporate” and I don’t think any one of them have the skills to produce food grains and manage it. Corporate are nothing but crooks who are most irresponsible care only for their own profits.

Farmers can supply all the food products corporate need to their retail stores. But corporate want, like commission agents, to pick up the farm produce at lowest rates at harvest time. Are the corporates willing to pay 70% of the retail price to farmers?

Swift action is required to overhaul the rythu bazaars or farmers’ markets, most of which are presently controlled not by farmers but by traders. Even the “farmers’ markets” are now heavily loaded against the small producers and cartels and trader networks manipulate these and rig prices systematically.

M.S. Swaminathan admits traders who operate cartels to rig prices control even farmers markets.

KNOWLEDGE CENTRES HELPING LUNATICS

With the liberalisation of procedures, the commodity future market is expanding at a fast pace. The trade turnover in the commodity exchange touched Rs. 5,70,000 crores during 2004-05.

As a national self-empowerment measure, we should establish an Indian Trade Organisation (ITO) and our own boxes for domestic agricultural support on the model of WTO’s Blue, Green and Amber Boxes. The value of our annual agricultural production including livestock in 2002-03 was Rs. 5,60,516 crore. The value of our exports of farm commodities in 2002-03 was only Rs. 34,654 crore (6.18 % of total agricultural production).

At no time commodity exchanges captured the food trade, which was equal to agri GDP, presently could be double the agroGDP. Poor quality of crops in storage and handling render them unfit for human consumption.

Mission 2007 – Every Village a Knowledge Centre: Knowledge Management and Dissemination. In its first Report submitted in December 2004, NCF stressed the need for knowledge connectivity in rural India, since farm families urgently need the right information at the right place and at the right time in order to enhance agricultural efficiency and competitiveness.

When India can’t find a replacement for this crook in 40 years Knowledge Centers Shall Be promoting his lunatic ideas. Knowledge promoted by Swaminathan helped commodity exchanges rig prices to twice then prevailing before introduction of these exchanges.

CROOKED SCIENTISTS

Traders now are better informed about the production of crops well before their harvest and price manipulations begins with hoardings program. Traders know exactly how much to store and how much to release to sustain high price level.

India is led by mediocres and crooks. This crook has not learnt so far that in science we have to define “standard conditions” and then calculate the results. Cost has to be calculated on per-hectare basis. But generally Indian scientists yield to political pressure and adopt unscientific procedures. Costs are determined under political directions.

Standard Conditions for wheat could be “Wheat production of two tons per hectare, cost of four irrigations, 200 kg of NPK, 100 kg of certified seed, cost two ploughing and seed drilling, use of herbicide or manual weeding, harvesting my machines etc, depreciation of tube-well and machinery of Rs. 5000, seasonal rent of say Rs.10,000 per hectare and 50% profit. The figure arrived at be divided my 20 to determine the MSP per quintal.

Cost of tube-well irrigation is not fully accounted in determining MSP.

TN gets twice more rains and wages are a third of Punjab but cost of producing paddy calculated by his scientists is substantially more in TN.

Similarly how can we believe MSP for paddy is less than wheat. Since Punjab, a small state with little political influence, contributed bulk of it for government purchase paddy MSP was kept substantially low.

In no time commodity exchanges captured the food trade. Present turnover could be double three years earlier. With pride and honor Swaminathan continues to hold on to the positions when he has persistently failed in 40 years.

India annually produces about 22,000 agricultural graduates and post graduates. As per available estimates of Applied Manpower Research Institute (AMRI 2000), upto the year 2000 the country produced about 166,200 graduates in agriculture and allied areas, 78,200 post graduates and 11,400 doctorates.

INDIA LED BY MEDIOCRES

It is amazing how M.S. Swaminathan could fool India for four decades reflects the poor caliber of Indian political leaders from Nehru to Manmohan Singh and Abdul Kalam when science and management were at infancy stage and present generation led by these mediocres have been poorly trained and led on all fronts.

India must be ruled and scientifically managed. The Supreme Court in the Kaveri case directed GOI to find a scientific solution to the problem that GOI couldn’t find in 60 years and M.S. Swaminathan was the chief culprit for five decades. He failed to resolve his home state problem but is now in charge of both agriculture and water resources departments of India.

India alas is led by mediocres and crooks. M.S. Swaminathan has not learnt so far that in science we have to define “standard conditions” and then calculate the results. Cost has to be calculated on per hectare basis. But generally Indian scientists yield to political pressure and adopt unscientific procedures. Costs are determined under political directions.

Ministry of Agriculture under his control was responsible for genetic erosion for four decades and now for 16 years he is collecting donations for M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (Madras) to preserve whatever is left.

Every two villages has more than one farm scientist but agriculture in India is pathetic and villages in distress conditions, there is no safe food storage, little seeds production, poor management of irrigation resources, poor harvesting technology, wastages in storage and exploitation by money lenders. In addition poor electric supply, shortage of safe water, poor roads, schools and healthcare facilities and little sanitation- caused by failure of agriculture. (progressindia2007@yahoo.com).

Mere 6% Brahmins, Karans ruling Orissa

V.T. RAJSHEKAR

The poverty-stricken, tribal-dominated east coast state of Orissa—ruled by a mere 2% Brahmins plus 4% Karans (Patnaiks-Kayasths), with the other 95% SC/ST/BCs, Muslim/Christians living as slaves —celebrated the Dalit Voice silver jubilee at Bhubaneswar on June 10 with much greater enthusiasm and dedication compared to the April 8 “national” celebration in the country’s capital (Delhi).

This is because Bhubaneswar is a small place while Delhi is a metropolitan city. DV has better circulation outside metro cities like Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta, Madras, Bangalore, Hyderabad. People living in metros have been reduced to robots. DV circulation has been always good in Orissa. It would have been better but the Adivasis (Tribals), who occupy the largest chunk of the state (26%), have been made an unthinking lot under the Hindu terrorist machinations. Lately the Brahmin-led Maoists are continuing the same work. The church which ought to have taken up the liberation struggle is sleeping. So the liberation movement is confined to the handful of educated Ambedkarites.

P.K. Jena, who first invited us to Orissa in 1997 and now busy spreading BSP, and K.M. Tanti, a state govt. officer and the chief host, R.P. Swain, a brilliant OBC MLA, were present throughout the day. Dr. K.K. Sidhu, editor of Hindi DV from Delhi, Dr. Yadaiah, our Hyderabad representative, a team of DV members from W. Bengal including some Bengali Muslims, came from outside. DV members from all the 30 districts of the state were present.

The meeting unanimously urged the Editor that DV should not be stopped at any cost and assured financial support. Basant Kumar Mallick of Utkal University and Issac Behera, IAS (retd) presided over the morning and afternoon sessions.

Details of the meeting will be in the next issue.

Maoist International takes note of DV writings

COMRADE AYYANKALI

Maoist International Movement (MIM) of America is so much impressed with the Dalit Voice interpretation of Indian social scene and also its outright criticism of India’s fake maoists. It is also pleased with DV ruthlessly exposing the American writers Naom Chomsky and Samuel Huntington. These writers promote Muslim-hatred in the name of promoting democracy. Islam cannot be abolished after imperialism is eradicated. Stlain and Mao also did not succeed in eliminating religion. It is not possible to abolish Islam while there are no socialist countries yet. Trotskytes and CIA agents, who want “neither imperialism nor Islam”, never said the same thing about Christianity. Why they did not say: “Neither imperialism nor Christianity”? Christianity has a much higher portion of labor aristocracy than Islam. MIM has taken note of the DV Editor’s announcement of closing down. It noted his complaint of making no headway against hinduisation of Dalits and his criticism of the CPI (Maoist) using Dalits as cannon-fodder. Hence the need for a Maoist Party for Dalits combining the Editor’s “class-caste struggle theory”.

Brahminical counter-revolution began from Bengal

KAZI KAMRUJJAMAN, c/o MASIUR RAHMAN, 36 - STAND ROAD, 2ND FL., ROOM NO.16-B, CALCUTTA - 700 001

[This message was sent by our revolutionary leader Nasir Ahmed who is working with Dalits since 1979. Prof. Abdul Kasem of Calcutta met him in 1981 with Dalit Voice and introduced the work of our Editor. The message was personally handed over to the Editor at the Orissa Dalit Voice silver jubilee at Bhubaneswar on June 10, 2009.]

Both Muslims and Dalits were originally Budhists, particularly in Bengal which was under Budhists during the Pal rule. Ballal Sen, a Brahmin ruler, introduce caste system in Bengal to annihilate the Budhists. Peace-loving Budhists failed to fight the enemy. Their agony is recorded in Bengali literature which was not produced by the Brahmin but by the Budhists. Brahmins were the enemies of Bengal and Bengali literature. Bakhtiar Khiljee defeated the Sen dynasty and liberated the people of Bengal. To escape from Brahmin tyranny the Dalits embraced Islam. Hence the Bengali Muslims and Dalits are blood brothers.

Brahmin-Budhist conflict turned out to be Brahmin-Muslim conflict. Brahmins later corrupted the Muslim ruler from within and attacked it from outside through Nimai-Pandit. This Brahminic cultural movement is called Vaisnava movement which was a terrorist movement under “peaceful” disguise. Vaisnav movement finally destroyed the very character of the people.

This Brahminical mysticism was the root cause of the fall of Bengal under Sirajuddaulah. Sufi culture was also mystic and hence un-Islamic. Islamic puritan movement was introduced by Hazi Sariatullah and Titumir. Muslim League, Jamiate-Ulama Bangal, Krishak Praja Party sprang out of this cultural movement. The Muslim socio-political culture isolated the Bengali Brahmins. But they were saved by the Indian Brahminic Congress Party and its Bania-Marwari financial supporters. Now the CPM and so-called leftists supported by the big business Tatas, Salim etc.. are trying to annihilate the non-Brahmins. Hence the urgent need for Dalit-Muslim unity in Bengal to make our people conscious through literature, lectures, seminar etc.

Our aim is to increase the DV circulation. We are aware that DV’s financial position is critical. DV family is in deep slumber. Besides they are poor as well as miserly. They are poor in body and mind only due to lack of a cultural identity. Muslims have their own culture but Dalits are under Brahminic culture. This is the main obstacle for Dalit-Muslim unity. Cultural awakening makes man a fighter.

Dalits going to Budhism is a good sign. Muslims regard Budha as a prophet. In the Quran his name is Zulkipol i.e. man of Kapila. We know our Editor is behind this movement. He is also a Budhist. But Budhism to be successful has to be militant. Then only it can save India. We welcome this trend. Dalits should demand their own personal law for their emancipation. Converted Budhists should also demand their personal law. They should come out from the Hindu Code Bill. Otherwise their conversion will be fruitless.

************

There is a big Brahminical conspiracy to dilute Budhism by introducing non-violence, vegetarianism, meditation, idol worship and all sorts of nonsense. Budha fought and destroyed Brahminism. Our Dalit and Muslim family members of Bengal may arrange a one-day DV silver jubilee at Calcutta to discuss all these — EDITOR.

Hyderabad DV silver jubilee on Aug.12

DR. D. YADAIAH, B2 - 24, MIG, HUDA, CHANDA NAGAR, RR DT., AP-500 050

Dalit Voice state-level silver jubilee celebrations will be held in Hyderabad on Aug.12, 2007 (Sunday).

The venue is either the Press Club of Hyderabad (Basheer Bagh) or Madina Education Centre, Nampally.

A detailed announcement will follow in the next issue of DV.

DV members from AP and surrounding areas are requested to note the date and send their proposals.

Editor V.T. Rajshekar will be present in the day-long celebration.

Dalit Voice is actually 26 year old. The national level silver jubilee celebration began with a grand function in Delhi on April 8 with DV family members from all parts of India attending.

Orissa DV members had their own state-level celebration at Bhubaneswar on June 10 in which I was present.

Overseas members of DV family and well-wishers of the Editor are preparing for a silver jubilee celebration in London sometime in July under the leadership of Brig. Usman Khalid, DV’s London representative.

Many other state-level celebrations in different parts of India are under preparation.

CLOSING DOWN D.V.

EVEN BABASAHEB DIED A SAD MAN

How sunset when there was no sunrise over Dalit world?

GURNAM SINGH MUKTSAR, 2 - BHAGT SINGH NAGAR, B/H BUS STAND, MUKTSAR - 152 026

The Budha asked us to first accept the “prevailing truth”. Such a truth is that every giant intellectual fighting for social revolution ultimately has to die a sad death.

The Editor asked the question: Has the sun set over Dalit world? The long history of India’s SC/ST/OBCs proves they have no hope. They don’t allow any sun to rise and stay shining over the Dalit world. The world’s greatest intellectuals were born in this class ever since the Aryan invasion but none was allowed to work with freedom for the havenots.

These SC/ST/OBC animals did not like their own devas (gods) but worshipped the enemy from birth to death. A majority of educated and employed Dalit-Backwards do not like Dr. Ambedkar. Their homes are furnished with Hindu gods and Hindu babas whom they worship daily.

Slaves enjoying slavery: They don’t have the habit of reading and understanding things. Books are a burden to them. I find in them genes of slavery from generations. They usually like slavery and worship the enemy. I am the only one person out of a large family to fight this centuries of slavery which my brothers are happily enjoying. They even hate me for fighting their slavery. At the DV silver jubilee celebration (April 8, 2007), I hoped the “100 writers and intellectual parts of DV” would be formed. But 90% of those attended were only readers.

DV worked hard for over 25 years. But could not gather even 100 intellectuals like Dr. Sidhu, Raju Thomas, Rawat, Dr. K. Jamnadas, Dr. Yadaiah from all over India.

This is because there is no sun rise over the Dalit world. When the sun did not rise at all how can there be a sunset?

No one can understand your sadness, your agony more than me. I am exactly like you. I continued the social struggle as a field worker, writer, reader as well as an editor. These days I am busy collecting the real history of our forefathers all over India like Sarnath, Vaishali, Nalanda, Rajgir, Aurangabad, Koregaon, Deeksha Bhumi etc.

Our society has become highly ungrateful— nay treacherous. Those for whom we work and fight they only stab us in the back. It never likes to help. It has no desire to rise. It is dead since centuries. They are the staunch followers of our enemy. Budha, Kabir, Nanak, Phule, Dr. Ambedkar are not their devas.

At the silver jubilee session I was sitting and carefully watching you a sad person. I confess an overwhelming majority of our people has no love for honest intellectuals like you. They are firmly attached to the enemy. Where is the sun to set in the Dalit world? It did not rise at all. This is the final truth. Only if we accept it, we will come out of our sadness and can continue our work in this vast intellectual desert.

The change that has been brought about by Dalit Voice (that is your Voice) will stop and your work so far done will go waste. You take it from me: after you there will be no other VTR to run your Voice. Your Voice will die with you.

You will have to face more sadness that will impact your health and your life which is more precious for all of us.

Dalit desert: I know this truth. That is, I continue to work even in this Dalit desert. Do not expect anything more. You have made history. What more do you want? Forget all the betrayals and carry on with all that you have in hand. You are not alone in this Dalit desert. Thousands are carrying on the caravan. In your team there are at least some honest intellectuals who have been firmly with you. Don’t let them down.

If you leave here, some other will have to step into your shoes. But where is your successor? You have done a great job. You have a family all over India and the world. Take my case I am exactly like you. Doing a thankless job. I have been badly deceived in the Kanshi Ram’s movement but I did not stop my duty to which I am fully bound.

Educated Dalits betraying society: All those who are going along with you are equally angry, disappointed, frustrated, helpless. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was in a worse state of mind. Did he not curse the educated Dalits for betraying the society? Did he not die a very sad man?

If you leave Babasaheb’s Caravan out of sadness, desperation, frustration, anger it will badly effect your health. You are committed to your mission whether it brings success or failure. As long as you are convinced that you are on the right path, why bother about the indifference of the society? You are not doing this work to please anybody. I want you should go ahead with your caravan in the interest of humanity.

Tears over DV closure

RAM PARSHAD & R.S. KHOKHAR, DR. AMBEDKAR WELFARE MISSION, MOHALI - 160 059

When I receive DV I read it beginning to end leaving the longer ones. But this time I read the whole proceedings of DV silver jubilee (April 8, 2007) written by you and Dr. K.K. Sidhu. I started shedding tears sitting alone in my room over the plight of Dalits (SC/ST/BCs) and minorities. Brahminism is sucking and selling our blood, body and mind to White Western imperialists. Our people who call themselves Ambedkarites cannot see your tears. DV is our life-line. It is to be decided whether we want to die as son of the great Babasaheb or slaves of Brahmins. So DV and VTR should remain combined. DV is the voice and vision of the “Persecuted Nationalities Denied Human Rights”. It has scored victories over falsehood, inhuman act and deeds. Residents of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula area request your goodself that the sacred voice of Dalits (Dalit Voice) should not at all be silenced at any cost. We should be told how much amount is required and how much share we shall have to bear so as to enable us to reach our friends to seek help for this sacred common cause of our brethren.

Fight against Brahminism

D.V. MESHRAM, AT/PO: MOHALI, TAH DHANORA, GADCHIROLI DT. - 442 606

I am a DV family member only since two years and became its great admirer. I like DV articles very much. But I felt bad I could not attend the historical DV silver jubilee session in Delhi on April 8 due to school exams and other important official work. I want DV to continue for long and continue its struggle against Brahminism.

VTR jihad zindabad

S. AKHTAR, KHANPUR DEH - 392 150

Who is V.T. Rajshekar and what has he done through-out his life for the oppressed in India and at what cost and risk has been so thoroughly and extensively reported in the May 16, 2007 issue of Dalit Voice (especially in Sister K.K. Sidhu’s article). If this issue is published (even once on cheap paper) in various languages of the Indian subcontinent and mailed to public libraries it may make many right-thinking brothers and sisters belonging to every religion rise and extend a helping hand for the success of VTR’s jihad of telling the truth on the face of the oppressor rulers.

DV produced thousands of leaders

SHER SINGH,IAS, (retd.), CALCUTTA

DV has played a historic role and given birth to thousands of young Dalit leaders. It is time you have a serious introspection of your life and write a book that will be a magnum-opus. You say “caste is a nation in India”. I have made a deep study of caste and found that each caste was first a race and then a nation. That is how we feel a strange type of affinity and attraction when we meet a man from our own caste. DV’s quality is simply excellent but sometimes I felt you are supporting Muslims too much. Muslims are the most hated community in India for which their religious leaders are solely responsible. The West Bengal Govt. has started issuing orders regularising my service and to pay my arrears.

When DV defended Brahmins

P.K. JENA, HIG-161, PHASE-VII, SAILASHREE VIHAR, BHUBANESWAR - 751 021

I reprinted your famous Editorial, “In defence of Brahmins”, of July 16, 2005 and distributed it in Orissa among BSP workers. The SC/ST politicians of Orissa have all become slaves of Manuwadi parties like Congress, BJP, BJD (Biju Janata Dal) and CPM-CPI that they cannot understand what is happening in UP. They are still ignorant of the curse of “Poona Pact”. The SC/STs in Orissa are over 43% of the population but the state is being ruled by less than 7% Brahmin/Karan (Kayasths). When Mayawati became chief minister of UP thrice (1995, 1997 and 2002) Orissa SC/ST leaders could not tolerate the BSP support to BJP. Their poverty of thinking is shocking. Please write another Editorial on how BSP is galloping towards Delhi with the power of Ambedkarism and caste equation. After availing VRS since one year, I am busy in party work in my own district Balasore. I also attend BSP meetings in Delhi, Bhopal, Nagpur. That was how I lost contact with you. When I was in service, Kanshi Ram had visited my residence at Bhubaneswar thrice. My entire family is dedicated to BSP. You are requested to guide BSP through DV. Mohan Jena who was instrumental in bringing you in 1997 to Orissa is now MP under BJP. Dr. R.K. Nayak, retd IAS, is now MP (Rajya Sabha) under Congress. Those who know a lot about Dr. Ambedkar and Budha are in Hinduism and manuwadi parties. So I have decided to awaken this poor, middle class illiterate of Orissa Bahujan Samaj. This is a time-consuming job but a must.

Don’t worry about “slow death of Sikhism”

SURJIT SINGH GILL, GATEWAL GALI NO.3, SHAHEED JASDEV SINGH NAGAR, GILL, LUDHIANA - 141 116

I know you are much worried about the “Slow death of Sikhism”. You knew the famous S. Jagjit Singh of Chandigarh who is no more. He was very noble soul and a learned man. He has explained in detail in his book, The Sikh Revolution, the circumstances prevailing at the time of birth of Sikhism. He has very clearly mentioned that Hinduism is another name of Brahminism as you often write.

The revolution in other countries was political but the “Sikh revolution” was not only political but social, spiritual and absolutely scientific. In the book, Guru Gobind Singh’s Baisakhi by the late S. Kapoor Singh, ICS, has explained how the Gurus created the super human or an immortal man in the form (shape) of Sikh and then the Khalsa. The Gurus through ten lives and in nearly 240 years trained, educated and made a complete person according to the divine will and cosmic law. Sikhism is based on absolute truth and for the whole universe. The Gurus’ teachings are not for any community or country but for the whole universe. So you need not worry over the “Slow death of Sikhism”. It shall never die. It didn’t die even when the Sikhs were forced to live in forests and there was a price on their heads. It is a divine religion under the guidance of cosmic force.

As for the Jat Sikhs joining the BJP, I can say this much. The Jat Sikhs are the dominant community in Punjab. There are only two main parties here. So it is the Jats who rule whether it is the Congress or the Akalis. Small parties have no mass base. Jat Sikhs did not vote for the BJP. It was the urban population and Sikh traders who voted for the BJP. I can assure you that whenever they find a leader of value this community will stand by him.

Total alienation of Dalit Sikhs from Jats

Brother Surjit Singh has expressed his opinion on our good old (almost 10 years) Editorial, “Slow death of Sikhism”. Since we wrote this Editorial the Sikh situation has only worsened. Our fears did not go wrong. Brahminical people are gradually eating into Sikhism using the Dalit and Backward Caste Sikhs and non-Sikhs through the Sirsa (Haryana)-based Dera of a fake Sikh. This is the immediate cause of the latest explosion in Punjab. The Jat Sikhs have to seriously examine the causes for the Dalit and BC Sikh alienation from Sikhism. Why the Ballan Ravidas Mandir is attracting thousands of Dalit Sikhs? — EDITOR.
